Kailey Imes, MSW (she/her)

Registered Social Worker

Together, we can build a deeper understanding of yourself, nurture your existing strengths, and make space for healing, growth, and new possibilities.

“I view therapy as a collaborative and relational process grounded in curiosity, compassion, and accountability, where we can make sense of your experiences, recognize your strengths, and explore meaningful change at a pace that feels right for you. I believe there is room for the many layers of our experiences, including the grief, loss, love, uncertainty, and growth that can accompany caregiving, relationships, and life transitions.

I strive to create a warm, affirming, and non-judgemental space where you can feel supported in exploring your experiences, relationships, and the ways they have shaped you.  Clients have described me as compassionate, approachable, and encouraging.

There is room for every part of you—for your story, your struggles, your strengths, your growth, and your healing. My hope is that therapy becomes a place where you feel safe enough to be fully yourself, explore what matters to you, and welcome yourself home.”

Kailey’s Specializations & Focus

Kailey’s Approach

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy

Dialectical means "the existence of opposites." In DBT, people are taught two seemingly opposite strategies:

  • acceptance (i.e., that their experiences and behaviours are valid), and;

  • change (i.e., that they have to make positive changes to manage emotions and move forward).

DBT is an evidence based treatment for emotional dysregulation that balances complex validation and coping skill development.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps clients identify and change harmful thought patterns that affect their feelings and behaviours. CBT can help you:

  • Understand the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviours

  • Identify negative thoughts: You'll work with Kailey to become aware of "automatic thoughts"—these are rapid, often unhelpful thoughts that can cause emotional distress.

  • Challenge and reframe: You'll learn to question the accuracy of these thoughts, see them as opinions rather than facts, and find alternative, more realistic perspectives.

  • Change behaviours: By changing your thinking, you can change your reactions and develop healthier behaviours to cope with difficult situations.

Attachment and Somatic Approaches

Working from the lens of Attachment Theory, this model helps clients understand attachment wounds, their attachment styles, and find ways towards a secure attachment model that works best for them and their relationships.

Somatic Therapy invites clients to check in with the body and it’s signals in relation to our emotions and experiences. It creates space to attune to and connect with the body in order to facilitate psychological healing.

Intersectionality and Anti-Oppressive Practice

These models recognize how our identities, lived experiences, and social contexts shape our well-being, relationships, and access to support. Anti-oppressive therapists strive to approach therapy with cultural humility, curiosity, and an awareness of power and systemic barriers, honouring each person's experiences and perspectives. Sessions from this model can include:

  • Space to talk about experiences of oppression such as sexism, racism, sizism, classism

  • Collaborative conversations that hold systems of power accountable for the harms they have done to you and your community

  • Exploring acts of resistance and social justice as mental health care
